About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Data Engineer to join our Digital Business team. The Digital Business team is responsible for all technology applications and services and the delivery of digital projects across Craigs Investment Partners (CIP). Reporting to the Data Architect, this role will play a critical role in supporting a broad range of systems and process across CIPs Data Landscape. This is a permanent full-time position, based at our Head Office in Tauranga. 

The Senior Data Engineer will be primarily responsible with supporting CIP projects and guiding the various data analysis, data integration, data migrations, and BI (Business Intelligence) Development across the organisation. The role will work with business stakeholders and project teams to ensure accurate and efficient data analysis, integration, migration, and BI solutions are delivered within required timelines. The role will also actively assist in the maintenance, support and development of the CIP Data Platform. Other responsibilities include: 

  • Develop enhancements for the CIP Data Platform (Azure Synapse), Tabular Models (SSAS), and ad-hoc data delivery processes to improve the ability of the Data Team to deliver key metrics and analytics to the Business.
  • Solve complex data problems/calculations using scripting languages such as Python, SQL, to provide metrics previously unavailable in the CIP Data warehouse or Tabular Models.
  • Create BI Reporting, providing technical support as required, and implementing solutions that add value to the business and clients.
  • Work with project teams and vendors on data migration.
  • Design and develop data-specific solutions for improving business processes using tools such as JAMS, SSIS, SQL Server, Power BI/Fabric, Power Automate, MS Access, Logic Apps, and Task Scheduler.

About you 

This role will suit an experienced data engineer who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment in a collaborative team. The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organisation skills, and is a team player. Suitable candidates will also have:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Data Science
  • Advanced (10+ years) experience in MS SQL Server, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning. Experience with SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) for ETL processes.
  • Advanced experience in BI tools such as Power BI and SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS). Ability to create and maintain dashboards, reports, and data visualizations, making use of advanced DAX formulas.
  • BI Development Experience, with advanced experience with Azure Synapse Analytics, including data warehousing, data integration, data modelling, and data analytics. Strong aptitude with Synapse SQL, Spark, and Pipelines (Fabric experience is desirable).
  • Experience in Development Languages MS SQL, Python, DAX, and VBA.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to analyse complex data sets to derive actionable insights.
