Craigs Investment PartnersCraigs Women’s Wealth programme is run by our women advisers around New Zealand, with a vision to empower women of all ages with more confidence and knowledge to start investing or become better investors.
We recently spoke with Sarah Aimer, one of our investment advisers in Christchurch, and asked her about how she helps her clients, her view of success and some key learnings.
How do you help your clients? Making your money work as hard for you as you worked to earn it!
What is your why? My purpose as a financial adviser is to help my clients achieve financial security and peace of mind. I’m passionate about building strong relationships with my clients and getting to know them on a personal level. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is being able to help clients navigate challenging situations, like an unexpected life event. We work in partnership with our clients and get to know them to the point where meetings can feel like catching up with a friend.
The most rewarding part of your job: Helping people. Not just achieving financial freedom but also navigating life and it’s challenges.
Who are some women who inspire you, and why? My colleagues, they are incredibly open and willing to listen.
What does success mean to you? Having choices, choices to make life as fufilling as possible.
What change do you want to see in the next 12 months? My husband and I have almost finished renovating our 1960’s home so I would love to see the project completed!
What is the most valuable financial advice you have ever received? Pay yourself first! I know it’s boring but don’t save what you have left over after spending, spend what you have left over from saving.
What has been your own journey with investing? What age were you when you started? My journey with money, not just investing has been a long one where I have made many mistakes. I had to learn many lessons the hard way from the age of 15 when I started earning money and promptly learnt how easily it is spent!
What would you say to someone considering investing, but is a bit anxious? Talk to someone, not just anyone who has an opinion but someone who knows investing. Have a chat to your friends or family members and see who they learnt from or trust.
Home town: Alderholt, a small village in Dorset, England.
How you made your first dollar: Scooping ice-cream at our local berry farm. I still can’t quite look at jam the same way.
Favourite read? Gosh that is a hard call, a book that always sticks out in my mind is ‘Noughts & Crosses’ by Malorie Blackman.
Favourite podcast? Diary of a CEO – Steve Bartlett.
Motto you live by: You did not come this far to only come this far.
Most difficult life challenge? Leaning in to the unknown. I can be a bit of a control freak so I’m still learning how to navigate this!
