Experienced Investment Banking pair Justin Queale and Steven Sue take up new roles with Craigs Investment Partners

Changes to Craigs Investment Partners (CIP) investment banking division come into effect today, with Justin Queale starting in the role of investment banking chief executive, and Steven Sue as investment banking managing director.

Both Justin and Steven bring significant industry experience. In a career spanning 25 years, Justin has held roles at Deutsche Bank and Goldman Sachs, most recently as head of investment banking, New Zealand. Steven has over 18 years of local and international industry experience, most recently as executive director for Goldman Sachs. CIP chief executive Simon Tong says the appointments strengthen the firm’s already strong standing in investment banking.

“CIP has played a key role advising on landmark transactions over the past decade. The appointments of Justin and Steven affirm our commitment to corporate clients and our role in New Zealand capital markets. ”

Tong said the appointments were strategically important to the firm, with Justin and Steven’s track records of leadership, significant deal experience and strategic insights key to reinforcing CIP’s position as an industry leader.

“This move reflects our commitment to providing clients with exceptional expertise and service. Justin and Steven’s proven local and cross-border experience further enhances the firm’s capabilities and positions the firm well to service corporate clients into the future. I am pleased Justin will also join our team on the CIP Executive Committee to contribute to our overall strategy – grounded in our deep knowledge and connections within the New Zealand market and supported by our international strategic partnerships.”

CIP recently announced a multi-year MOU with global leader in investment management, J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

Queale says the role represents a compelling opportunity to be a part of a locally managed financial markets and advisory business that is entrenched in New Zealand capital markets, whilst also working alongside blue-chip partners internationally.

“I am very excited and energised to join the CIP team at a point where it is investing further in its clients and the New Zealand market. At the same time, I remain fully focused on continuing to provide quality advice and long-term support to the many great clients and businesses that are based in, or doing business in, our market,” says Queale.

“The current market environment presents additional challenges and opportunities where our CIP team has the advantage of many years of experience to draw on in supporting our clients to deliver on their strategies. Being a wholly locally operated firm gives CIP the ability to be quick on our feet, tailoring our approach to local market changes and client needs for maximum impact,” he says.

CIP’s longstanding investment banking CEO Brett Shepherd supported the appointments by moving into the role of executive chair. Brett will continue to work with key clients on deal origination and execution in his new role, maintaining the high level of service clients have come to associate with the firm.

“Brett has been central to building CIP’s reputation and success in investment banking. His guidance and experience in his new role alongside Justin and Steven’s appointments further solidifies CIP’s position as a prominent player in our market,” says Tong.
