From Titirangi to the New Zealand Open – with Craigs Investment Partners

New Zealand Open

Keen amateur golfer and Craigs’ client Brian Cadzow will be playing alongside professionals from around the world when he takes to the fairways at the New Zealand Open later this month.

Brian learned he’d won the sought-after spot in the Pro-Am Division recently, when Craigs Investment Partners Head of Private Wealth and Markets Jeremy Williamson drew his name from a pool of Craigs’ sponsored regional golf club competition winners eligible for the prize.

“In November 2023, Craigs was announced as a major sponsor of the New Zealand Golf Open,” says Williamson. “Since then, we have been building the connection between our many regional golf sponsorships and the New Zealand Open through our ‘Craigs Road to the Open’ competition.”

The Craigs Road to the Open competition gave players competing in eligible Craigs’ sponsored regional golf events the chance to win one of two prizes – entry into the Pro-Am Division to play alongside a professional on the field (open to players with a handicap of 20 or less), or a VIP guest experience. Both prizes include travel, accommodation, and hosting in the Champions Lounge for four days for two people.

Brian was entered into the draw when he won Craigs’ Auckland regional tournament held at Titirangi Golf Club, where Craigs is a longtime sponsor.

Brian says he is both excited and nervous about the opportunity.

“Having been a golfer almost all my life, and watched tournaments live many times, I am extremely excited to get this opportunity to not only be ‘inside the ropes’, but actually play in the event. When Jeremy rang with the news that I had won the draw I was ecstatic, then I thought about how nervous I will be on the 1st tee, so hopefully I play ok.”

He thanked Craigs for its support of the Auckland regional tournament and its efforts to include clients and local communities in the Craigs Road to the Open competition. “I really can’t wait for it all to start and to be involved in what will be a very memorable golfing experience,” says Brian.

He will have support on the course from Craigs, with his investment adviser Adam Lynch caddying for him and Jeremy Williamson also competing.

“Supporting a world-class sporting event like the New Zealand Open which, like us, brings a global perspective into Kiwi homes, is a perfect match for Craigs,” says Williamson.

“Our 19 local branches nationwide are committed to supporting charities and the communities they serve. Golf raises more money for charities in New Zealand than any other sport, and so growing our involvement is a great way to build connections with our communities and our clients while supporting charitable causes.”

Williamson says Craigs will use its sponsorship of the Open to raise funds for three nominated charities during the tournament – with Craigs providing cash donations for every birdie made during the Open on the Craigs’ sponsored hole and running a ‘closest to the pin’ competition for spectators, where all proceeds will be donated to charity.  The three charities that Craigs is supporting are the Wakatipu Community Foundation, Cure Kids and the Acorn Foundation.

The New Zealand Open takes place at Millbrook Resort in Arrowtown from Thursday 29 February to Sunday 3 March. You can follow Brian’s progress on the Craigs Investment Partners Facebook page
